The "x 131.25" method has been the standard way of estimating ABV from an initial and final specific gravity for quite a long time.
The "x 135" method has been pushed by some as more accurate for higher gravity drinks, especially meads and wine.
The "Complex" method uses a weighted algorithm and we feel it's the most accurate all-around. It was developed by Michael Hall in 1995. It's not an easy one to do on paper or even on a calculator.
